Where to Find Out More

Books

There is a vast number of books available on every aspect of web page design. You just have to find one in a style that suits you. Some of the more recently written ones concentrate exclusively on the most recently introduced features of the language. It is worth avoiding these until you are fully familiar with the basics.

The reference work I find most useful is:

The Advanced HTML Companion, 2nd Edition by Keith Schengili-Roberts & Kim Silk-Copeland

This is excellent for the standard markup, but when you decide to start using style sheets, you may find it less helpful. For this topic, I prefer:

DHTML for the World Wide Web, a Visual Quickstart Guide, by Jason Cranford Teague.

Resources on the Web

There are also many sites on the web giving more information. Just point your favourite search engine at "HTML tags" or some similar term.

Here are a couple of good sites with their correct URL's at the time this page was last updated. Visit them and see what you think:-

Dave Ragget's Introduction to HTML at http://www.w3.org/MarkUp/Guide/ is a really excellent and readable introduction. (This is part of the home site of W3C, the World Wide Web Consortium, which is the standards setting authority for HTML.)
Dave Arns' HTML Reference http://www.arnspub.com/QuickRef/ is a good "Quick Reference" guide to HTML tags.
